Perfectionism
What it looks like:
You see perfection as a pathway to escape feeling vulnerability, uncertainty, and discomfort. But you inevitably fall short of your perfectionistic standards, leading to harsh self-criticism and feelings of shame and anxiety. This cycle becomes a barrier to trying new things, building authentic connections with others, and makes life more stressful than necessary. What initially felt like protective armor has gotten too heavy, but allowing yourself to take off the armor feels too risky.
How I Help:
Together we will unpack why mistakes feel so dangerous and work to view them in a more realistic way, shift focus away from perfectionism to “healthy striving”, and practice more effective ways of coping with imperfection when it inevitably occurs.
