Trauma
What it looks like:
Distressing events from the past cause you to feel threatened and unsafe long after the event ended. This keeps you on alert and constantly scanning for threats, making it difficult for your mind and body to rest and feel grounded. Trauma can also cause flashbacks (reoccurring memories of the distressing events), irritability, feeling detached from the present moment, and/or overwhelming shame.
How I Help:
Together we work to reestablish a sense of mental and physical safety to reduce lurking feelings of danger and increase feelings of calm. We do this by learning about how trauma impacts the brain, challenging inaccurate narratives of your role in your traumatic experiences or the safety of the world, practicing strategies for self-soothing and regulation, and creating regulating environments and communities to invite safety into your life.
